Planning Your Wedding

How wonderful! He’s popped the question and you’re engaged to be married!

Congratulations as you take your first steps into your happy future together.

You’re going to be busy over the next few months but don’t panic. There are masses of wedding planning tools out there to help you through every step of the way. If you decide to use a professional wedding planner that’s fine but if you’ve got some time, then plan your wedding yourself and make it a day that’s very personal to you.

The most important thing to do before you start is to set a realistic budget. Work out with your fiancé exactly what you can afford, find out if your parents are happy to contribute and go from there. You really don’t want to start off on married life together with credit card debts and a huge loan to pay for your wedding – family and friends come to your wedding because they love you and want to share your special day with you, not because they want to be impressed.

We are delighted you have found Wedbits, a wedding blog that helps you plan your wedding the way you want to, with bridal inspiration, hints and tips for your big day, ideas for DIY weddings, wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses, venues, bouquets ….

You’ll find great photographs of wedding cakes, real weddings, gossip and ideas galore.

We’d love you to send in photographs of your own wedding so that we can maybe feature it in our real weddings section. Or if you’ve a DIY wedding tip you’d like to share with brides please let us know about it.

We’re constantly adding to Wedbits – it’s a bit like an online bridal magazine that you can dip into whenever you need. You should also check out the Dessy Facebook page for more photographs, inspiration and to join the conversation.

Happy reading and congratulations on your forthcoming marriage!

A Navy Blue and White Wedding

I love stripes. I also love navy blue and white together. I hadn’t particularly thought about a navy and white wedding theme to be honest. But then I saw these wonderful photographs by The McCartneys on Style Me Pretty and thought how fabulously these colours work together.

If you were getting married near the sea and wanted a slightly nautical feel to the day, then this is definitely something to be thinking about.

For starters, the groom is wearing a dark navy suit – which is beautifully smart and just that little bit different. I think it contrasts perfectly with the bride’s dazzling white frock.

You could jazz up a classic white tiered wedding cake with some blue and white stripe ribbon, as shown here. An inexpensive but very effective way to decorate a supermarket cake, creating something classy and chic.

Also I love the way the navy/white table runner has been used. Again this is a simple idea that you could borrow for your own wedding reception, particularly if you’re saving your pennies and doing a lot of the styling of the room yourself. Just buy a length of fabric that will fit the size of the tables and place on a simple white tablecloth for instant effect.

If you’re using stripes, maybe work them into your save-the-date cards and wedding invitations to get things started.

Finally, don’t forget to get your bridesmaids in on the act. Maybe dress them all in the same shade of darkest blue, but allow them to choose their own necklines – strapless, one shoulder, sweetheart … and you’ll have some happy ladies.

Check out the navy blue bridesmaid dresses available at Dessy, in a multitude of designs in both cocktail and full length. You’ll also find waistcoats in navy for the men too!
